I will be the first to admit that, despite his controversial and often derogatory lyrics, I have always been a fan of rapper Lil’ Wayne. I love hip-hop and rap music, and I have always admired some of the creative rhymes, rhythms, and beats Lil’ Wayne brings to a track. But, I saw a video today that made me absolutely sick to my stomach.

This weekend, I had the incredible honor of attending the taping of CNN’s All-Star Heroes Tribute at the historic Kodak Theatre, in Los Angeles, CA. I can honestly say it was one of the most rewarding and humbling moments in my entire life, as I watched ten real-life heroes take the stage to overwhelming applause. That night, there were a number of notable celebrities in attendance, including host Anderson Cooper, Carrie Underwood, Leona Lewis, Nicole Kidman, George Lopez, Pierce Brosnan, Kate Hudson, Maxwell, and Eva Mendes. But CNN’s Top 10 Heroes of 2009 outshone them all.

Already on campus, we have encountered some resistance. In the six weeks since our organization’s launch, our roster still lacks a single male participant. One friend mentioned the other weekend that he was “going to stop by a meeting, but checked out the site, saw something about a man beating his wife, and realized he probably wouldn’t be welcome.” This comment was disappointing on several levels…

Two Vietnamese women have allegedly been working as modern slaves in central Pennsylvania nail salons. According to ABC News, three individuals have been arrested and brought up on charges of forced labor trafficking, marriage fraud, and forced labor. According to reports, the threesome recruited workers from Vietnam, brought them into the U.S. through fraudulent marriages, and forced them to work without pay. The operation came crashing down when one woman escaped from the New Cumberland house in which she had been held for almost four years.

The Daily Mail reports that L’Oreal has been conducting ongoing, extensive studies regarding human hair–research that cost them approximately £581 million last year alone. This research has uncovered a variety of things, notably that grey hair may be a thing of the past if scientists can figure out a way to stop loss of melanocytes, which are pigments cells.

My question is… where are our priorities?!
