Human rights advocate, Aaron Cohen, wants to expose Cambodia’s long existing problem of child sex trafficking in Cambodia, an issue that has been virtually swept under the rug.  For years Cohen has been working undercover in the sex trafficking underbelly in order to gain useful information necessary to make arrests of those trafficking women and children.  While Cohen’s fight to stop sex trafficking has taken him around the world, he notes that South Asia is one of the worst and most tragic of cases.

The movie Precious, based on Sapphire’s novel Push, was recently released into theaters and it deals with a myriad of women’s issues plaguing the film’s protagonist, Precious.  Precious is an illiterate teenager in Harlem who is pregnant with her second child by her father. The abuse does not stop with her father–her mother also sexually and physically abuses Precious. She has to face many issues that are of great concern to us here at GCNova.

It has been a rough month for California. According to an affidavit made public yesterday, 14-year-old Raul Renato Castro has been charged with murder, child molestation, sodomy, kidnapping, and murder of a witness to prevent testimony after the assault of his 4-year-old neighbor that resulted in the child’s death. Investigators claim that Castro lured the young boy into his empty apartment, sexually assaulted the toddler in the bathroom, then drowned him in the bathtub when he became frightened that his victim would tell his mother.

How’s this for a terrifying headline: 9-year-old girl slain by 15-year-old playmate.

There have not been many details released by authorities in the case of Elizabeth Olten, 9, who disappeared on her way home from a friend’s house last week. However, after a few frantic days of searching and finally a helpful tip, authorities uncovered her body in a well-hidden location. The evidence led them to a 15-year-old girl who, according to Olten’s family, had played with the victim.

In a round-up that resulted in the arrests of over 690 people, the FBI has recovered 52 children and arrested 60 pimps involved with child prostitution. Over the past three days, Operation Cross Country IV has operated in 36 cities with the cooperation of 30 FBI divisions to combat child prostitution on the local, state, and federal levels.
