we’re back!
January 26th, 2010after a month hiatus, GCNova is back.
though we realize that the issues we fight for never sleep, we really needed a break. after the crazy rush of fundraising and events at the very end of fall semester, along with the added stress of final exams and papers, our students have been enjoying a well-deserved vacation. now, however, we are officially in the midst of the spring semester and are resuming our advocacy duties!
in the coming months, GCNova will be participating in Villanova University’s annual Love the Skin You’re In fashion show, which promotes healthy body image among young adults and teenagers. This year, the Office of Health Promotion has agreed to focus the cultural segment on traditional Africa and Zimbabwe, in order to shed light on GCNW issues of child, domestic, and sexual violence as they continue to have an impact on the lives of young girls. Also, in April, GCNova will be organizing its second big round of events in recognition of National Sexual Assault Awareness Month. GCNW founder and CNN Top 10 Hero Betty Makoni is planning a visit to Villanova on April 7, 2010, in order to host a short discussion and introduce the documentary Tapestries of Hope. Finally, limited edition t-shirts designed by GCNova and drawn by my father, Brian Lu, have been signed by Villanova notables (President Fr. Peter M. Donohue, football coach Andy Talley of the 2009 NCAA Champions, and basketball coach Jay Wright) and will be auctioned off to benefit Freshwater Haven and GCNW in the coming weeks.
It should be a fun, interesting semester, so welcome back!
